Roasted Grapefruit Pomegranate Rosewater Yogurt

My weekday breakfast usually consists of a bowl of cereal and an espresso.  I eat it in front of the computer while checking any e-mails I got since the previous day.  I usually have about 5 minutes to do this before I realize that it’s definitely time to leave for work.

Brown Butter, Bourbon, And Butterscotch Banana Bread

I was honestly not going for the alliteration when I composed this recipe.  The truth is I was sitting on some very ripe bananas (not literally), leftover browned butter, and a mountain of butterscotch chips.  I googled brown butter banana bread and this recipe came up.  So I replaced the coconut with the butterscotch chips.

Pumpkin Gingerbread

For the most part, I feel like exactly the same person as I did when I was a kid.  Maybe I have a couple more responsibilities and a little more independence, but I haven’t really changed, right?

Pumpkin Spice Oatmeal

I can’t lie; I hated oatmeal as a child.  I did whatever I could to mask the taste of it going down.  That usually included topping with large spoonfuls of jam until it was more like jam with oatmeal than oatmeal with jam.

Cinnamon Brown Sugar Scones

I make scones a lot.  That’s a fact.

I like to make scones on the type of days when I loosely define morning as the time during which I eat my first meal... whether that’s before noon or not.

Plum Clafoutis

Time seems to go by so fast.  One minute we’re grabbing at the first strawberries of the season, the next we’re knee deep in stone fruit.  Too soon apples and pumpkins will make their way into our recipes.  We have to make the most of everything while we can.  Fruit is a good metaphor for life.

Super Streusel Roasted Pineapple Pound Cake

I bought a pineapple the other day.  A whole pineapple.  This is something I rarely do because disassembling a whole pineapple is a daunting task that leaves me sticky all over with a puddle of pineapple juice on the counter.  And I always feel like I’m wasting half of it trying to get rid of those little sharp bits.  But I bought one because they look so cool, with their yellow-green colour and tuft of leaves on top.

Lemon Blueberry Scones In Real Life

** These pictures were not staged.  All were taken with my phone in a very dimly lit kitchen.  Real life.**

It was an early morning here, something that doesn’t happen very often.  I guess we’re still partially on Europe time.  I found myself awake and staring at the ceiling thinking about what to make for breakfast.  The lemons and blueberries I bought yesterday seemed destined to come together in a warm and crumbly pastry.

Biscuit Sticky Buns

Most of the time, shortcuts are a bad idea.  At work I’ve learned this the hard way several times.  Do an experiment halfway and you’ll just end up having to do it again.  So you might as well just do it right the first time.

These sticky buns are an exception to the rule.  They are a shortcut you should take.  With no yeast or rise time, they are sticky bun express.

Cherry Vanilla Scones (for Easter breakfast)

It’s Easter weekend!  It’s totally beautiful out, and I really have to force myself not to do any work.  Do you ever have to force yourself to relax?

Sleeping in always helps.  A nice walk outside in the almost-springy weather.  And a nice, fresh baked breakfast pastry.  I’m not talking pop tarts here.

Kale, Dragon Fruit, and Coconut Smoothie

I am training for a 10k race in May.  The race is in May, not the training.  The training is now.  Or at least it was until I got reinjured.

Injuries are the worst.  I had the best intentions of sticking to my training schedule and now I can’t!  But of course I still feel guilty.  As if I was faking the injury just to get out of training.  It’s all so silly.  Runner’s guilt, who has felt this before?

Wake up and smell the cinnamon

There's something about Sundays, where even though all you want to do is veg and rest, you still want a nice Sunday breakfast (not to mention Sunday dinner).  This is why I love cinnamon buns.  They are comforting, they smell nice, they are ooey, gooey, sweet, and delicious.  And somehow still considered an ok breakfast food.  That's fine with me!  But best of all, they can be prepared the day before and only take 10 minutes (ok, maybe 20 if you count preheating the oven) on Sunday morning to bake up fluffy and amazing.
