Game of Thrones: House Greyjoy Cake

Tomorrow is the day the final season of Game of Thrones starts. If you’re like me, you’re still waiting for the next book…

But until then, we make do with the TV show.

I started this series of cakes with some of the main houses: Stark, Lannister, Targaryen. No one can dispute that these are the main competitors in the Song of Ice and Fire.

But at least in the last season and the last book, House Greyjoy has become increasingly important.

Roasted White Chocolate Lava Cake

I first encountered roasted white chocolate at Soma here in Toronto.  I couldn’t resist buying their roasted white chocolate bar white it’s lightly browned, slightly crisp edges, and that’s saying a lot since I normally want to buy everything in there.  So it was only natural that when I had the idea to make a classic lava cake with white chocolate, I had to roast it first.

Burnt Caramel Fig Cheesecake

At my parent’s house for New Year’s Eve there was always cheesecake.  I actually thought it was a Polish tradition for a long time, but it turns out it was just my mom’s tradition.  Either way, I associate cheesecake with the New Year and that’s clearly a good thing.  Especially when your cheesecake is rich, creamy, and dripping with a deep, dark caramel sauce.

Caramel Apple Tart

The hectic weeks are done (for now) and I can breathe a little again!  Breathe and smell the apples and cinnamon.  

We are being inundated with apples!  There are always apples at the grocery store, so it’s easy to take them for granted most of the time, but we shouldn’t.  I mean, it’s not every day you can get these adorable, small, local apples.  Shiny and bright; red jewels decorating the trees, waiting to be picked.  Just look at them.

Caramel S'mores or How to Deal With Rejection


Last Friday I had my heart broken.  Not by my husband (thank goodness), but by a much crueler mistress that is the scientific peer review process.
