Game of Thrones: House Stark Cake

In honour of tonight’s Game of Thrones Season 4 premiere, I present a series of cakes for some of the main GoT families.  I have tried not to spoil anything, but just in case here is a SPOILER ALERT.

When I think of GoT, my mind automatically gravitates toward the Starks.  Maybe it’s because they are the first that we are introduced to.  Maybe it’s because they are one of the few families portrayed in the books that have all members with POV chapters (except Rickon), so we really get to experience the depth, breadth, and variety in their personalities.  Maybe it’s because Arya is my favourite character.

House Stark

Sigil: A grey direwolf on a white field

Motto: Winter is coming

The cake: Rich and dark chocolate cake with a fluffy mint frosting.

The brown colours of the woods and the white of the snow that I imagine surround Winterfell.  The minty frosting is cold and falls in drifts and swells to remind us all that winter is coming.  The cake is simple and “naked” to symbolize the honesty and loyalty that is synonymous with the Stark name.  Yet, when we take a bite, the flavours are much more complex than we anticipated from the surface appearance.  Honour and justice until the end.

“You think my life is some precious thing to me? That I would trade my honor for a few more years... of what?” – Ned Stark

“All men should keep their word, kings most of all.” – Robb Stark

“Stick 'em with the pointy end.” – Arya Stark

“My skin has gone from porcelain, to ivory, to steel.” – Sansa Stark
