Lavender Honey Baklava

We had a Game of Thrones Finale party last year where I tried to make snacks that corresponded to the regions of Westeros.  (Incidentally, Season 5 premiere on Sunday... excited!!!) I had meat pies for Winterfell, lemon tarts for King’s landing, and baklava for the desert lands of Essos.  I didn’t actually make the baklava then.  We bought it from Paramount, a Lebanese and middle eastern Arabic restaurant that has the best fresh pita bread and hummus.  It was so good, a mouthful of buttery, sweet, melt in your mouth pastry.

Downton Abbey: Tea and Honey Macarons

Maybe it’s because I’m a baker that I always tend to notice the food in books, tv shows, and movies.  Or maybe it’s because food is such an integral part of human life that you’d be hard pressed to find a book or tv show or movie without it.  Either way, the food always transports me into the fantasy.

Honey Beer Winter Warmer

The view from my hotel room right now is palm trees, blue skies, and sunshine, so it’s hard to imagine needing this winter warmer right now.  San Diego, you have amazing weather!  But no doubt I’ll make it again in a week when I come back to Toronto.
