A Night In The Life: A Gilmore Girls Reunion Cocktail

The following is entirely made up and is not affiliate in any way with the official Gilmore Girls television show…

Scene: Rory and Lorelai are preparing to have a mother/daughter night in.

Lorelai: Oh, let’s make cocktails!
Rory: Do we know how to make cocktails?
Lorelai: People are always makin’ ‘em on TV. How hard can it be?

Lorelai rummages in kitchen cupboard and emerges with some bottles of liquor.

Rory: Where did you get those?
Lorelai: I may have stolen them from your grandparents house over the years…
Rory: Mom!
Lorelai: It’s not like they would ever notice, they have like ten of each.

Lorelai begins mixing some of each liquor in a glass and then tastes it, making a face.

Rory: How is it?
Lorelai: It tastes like sugar syrup with alcohol. Why couldn’t I have stolen anything that wasn’t sweet and chocolatey?

Rory takes the lid off her to-go cup of Luke’s coffee and pours a swig into her mom’s cup.

Rory: Here.

Lorelai takes a sip and looks surprised.

Lorelai: That’s good! How did you do that?
Rory: It’s the coffee, it makes everything better.
Lorelai: “Luke’s coffee: making everything better since 1986.”
Rory: That should be his new slogan.
Lorelai: I’ll let him know tomorrow.

Scene fades out and returns, panning over a table strewn with candies, marshmallows, and cocktail paraphernalia with the familiar “lalalas” of Gilmore girl music. Lorelai, asleep at the table jerks awake. Rory groans beside her.

Lorelai: How many of those did we have last night?
Rory: I lost count after we went to get more coffee from Luke’s.
Lorelai: We went to Luke’s?

THE END

A Night In The Life
Make 2 cocktails

2 oz strong brewed coffee
1 oz Koloa or other dark rum
1/2 oz Kahlua
1/2 oz unsweetened coffee liqueur such as Wayward Depth Charge*
1/2 oz Galliano
1/2 oz Amaretto

Stir all ingredients over ice until chilled. Strain into two glasses of your choice. Garnish with anything and everything you can think of.

*You can skip this ingredient and increase the brewed coffee to 2.5 oz. it won’t make very much difference in the final taste, it just gives it a bit more coffee depth.
